Archive collections

You can view or research the following archive collections online.

The Second Air Division Digital Archive

This is a collection of more than 30,000 images of original photographs, letters, memoirs and other documents.

You can explore the collection at our digital archive website

It charts the experiences of Second Air Division personnel and their relationships with people in Norfolk and beyond during the Second World War.

The digitisation of these records was made possible through a generous donation from the legacy of Bernard Newmark, a veteran of the 458th Bomb Group (Horsham St Faith).

The donation was made through the Second Air Division Memorial Trust.

The Second Air Division Archive at the Norfolk Record Office

The archive contains more than 200 boxes of unique material: personal papers, diaries, maps, photographs, manuals and other memorabilia.

It's preserved at the Norfolk Record Office (NRO) where it's also available for research.

These are records that veterans, their families, local people and researchers have donated to the Memorial Library.

You can search the archives using the NRO's catalogue NROCAT.

The NRO also holds our oral history archive. More information on our sound recordings is available from the catalogue mentioned above.

The East Anglian Film Archive

The archive contains films from the East of England region from 1896 to the present day.

Its holdings include films relating to USAAF servicemen based in East Anglia during the Second World War.

Many of these films have been digitised and you can watch them through the East Anglian Film Archive website
