STATION 120
466th Bomb Group - March 1944 to July 1945
Location:
Attlebridge airfield was situated near Weston Longville, south-west of Attlebridge Village which is on the A1067 Norwich to Fakenham road about eight miles north-west of Norwich.
All sites are now private property and permission must be obtained prior to visiting. Please contact Memorial Library staff.
Remaining buildings, etc.:
The runways, perimeter track, and a few of the handstands remain as does the control tower, now extensively renovated and used as offices by Bernard Matthews Limited who own the airfield site. The briefing room and HQ block still exist, the latter being used as a private house.
The T.2 hangars have long since gone but a few of the old nissen huts and other structures remain on some of the dispersed sites, used for a variety of purposes.
Bernard Matthews have built a considerable number of turkey sheds on the remaining concrete areas as they have at several other former 2nd Air Division bases.
Memorials:
In August 1977, during a visit by a group of veterans, an ornamental village sign was dedicated at Weston Longville commemorating the men who lost their lives serving with the 466th B.G. All Saints Church at Weston Longville also contains a 466th B.G. Roll of Honor. During the 1992 Reunion a new memorial was dedicated at a crossroads on Frans Green.
